Do you have royalty in your residence? a little lounging princess that seems to know she’s destined for greater things? You could have a Princess Leia in your midst. if she’s more ambitious and already rules the throne you may be the proud parent of Queen Amidala.

If your home is frequently filled with noisy battle ground activity, and more often than not seems to resemble a battlefield, you may have a Jedi Knight or two on your hands and there may just be a serious galactic war going on right under your nose.

You wouldn’t see it of course – you’re an adult. Age and life’s little ups and downs sometimes dampen our enthusiasm and imagination but for your child the world is still full of imaginary creatures, magical happenings and galaxies far, far away.

If there’s one night of the year when reality shouldn’t be allowed to get in the way of a good story, it’s Halloween. and what better story is there than Star Wars. if your children seem to live on another planet, get them into kids Star Wars Halloween costumes for the big night.

For the young Jedi Knight there’s the Super Deluxe Jedi Robe Child Costume or the Star Wars Luke Skywalker Child Costume. He’ll be right at home battling the evil ones on the night. for the one with royal blood running through her veins, the Queen Amidala Costume might just be acceptable.

If the little man of the house prefers to play the baddie, he might be a Sith Lord in which case the Darth Maul Child’s Costume could be the perfect fit. Darth Maul managed to take out the Black Sun crime gang so a few zombies and odd looking pumpkins aren’t going to trouble him.

If your child seems to have more maturity and wisdom than most adults you know (or just really big ears) perhaps you may be lucky enough to have a Yoda in the family. The Star Wars Yoda Deluxe Child Costume will be a match and he’ll feel confident imparting his wisdom to wayward souls on the night of Halloween.

For the kids that like throwing their weight around and seem destined to wear a uniform of some sort, let them get a feel for the power early. The Star Wars Clone Trooper Costume will have them marching proudly down the street. and if your little one isn’t quite ready to take part in the Galactic Civil War, then the R2D2 or C-3PO Infant Costumes will keep them out of harms way.

Halloween has evolved into a magical night when families across the nation can share in and celebrate the wonder of childhood imagination. You may only dimly remember your own childhood games and fantasies but watching your own children exercise their imaginations can sometimes bring it all flooding back.

Star Wars was the biggest modern fairytale of its era and fed the imaginations of a generation of children. why not kit the whole family out in adult and kids Star Wars Halloween costumes and play out your own galactic war on the night!

For some reason, giant monsters are really keen on nom nom nom-ing Luke. Perhaps it is because he is from Tatooine, and years of working in the hot suns have baked him to a delectable crisp, appealing to human-devouring monsters. or maybe he sweats a lot, emitting a luring aroma which causes these blood-hungry aliens to salivate over the idea of eating him. Then there's the idea that Lucas just uses it as a plot device of appealing hero versus large creature, like all good Knights versus Dragon tales of olde.

Ah the Wiimote. An elegant weapon, not as clumsy or as random like a blaster. Paired with the Nunchuk, it's pretty awesome too, according to this video from G4, which got an exclusive hands-on with Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for the Wii's duel mode. (Man that was a mouthful).

G4's reporter went as Luke Skywalker, duking it out in a TIE Fighter bay with Asajj Ventress There's saber-slashing and Force-choking galore, all arising from a pretty shrewd use of combinations and reverse moves in both controllers. It's not all lightning bolts and throws, either. Check out that old-school kick to the grill Luke delivers at the end.

The video says you'll get 9 different arenas and 27 characters to choose from, classics to the expanded universe. I know that LucasArts is promising exclusive gameplay for all consoles. but I had the two Jedi Knight games on Xbox, where lightsaber combat was a lot of button mashing and getting lucky. honestly, if the purpose of this is to at last swing a lightsaber in 1:1 combat, then this is your baseline version.

It's probably going to make me buy a Wii. The question, will it make others do the same?

Look to see a lot of Star Wars parodies show up in your e-mail and Facebook today. after all, according to comedy e-card site JibJab, Tuesday is unofficially "May the 4th Be with You" day.

JibJab cut a deal with Lucasfilm to include clips from the first three Star Wars films (A new Hope, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi) for its "Starring You" section of the website.

Upload a picture of you (and your friends), and the whole gang can be featured in two-minute recaps of the Star Wars film of your choice. Lucas "gave us unlimited access to all of the footage, and said to cut as funny a two-minute movie as we could," says company co-founder Gregg Spiridellis.

JibJab has featured two classic films in its "Starring You" series before: It's a Wonderful Life, and A Christmas Carol, both of which are in the public domain, and thus, free to use. This is the first time JibJab has reached into its pocketbook to acquire footage.

Spiridellis wouldn't disclose the financial arrangement with Lucasfilm. he says Lucas approached JibJab earlier this year, after seeing the "Elf Yourself," (anyone can be an elf) and "Wonderful Life," videos.

The Star Wars deal is a way to keep JibJab members (who pay $12 yearly) excited to keep sending cards, as most of its traffic is on Christmas, Valentine's Day and birthdays. Cards using footage from Empire Strikes Back are free to all, but New Hope and Jedi are only for members.

The "Starring You" series is wildly popular. Some 270 million Starring you videos have been shared in the last 12 months, says Spiridellis.

There are two ways that video games might corrupt the people who play them.

There are two popular elements that two crowds of people detest, two elements that games usually have more of with each passing year.

Violence is the first. Collecting is the second.

The former — virtual killing and maiming and blowing things up — seems to critics who are not in on the fun of games as crass and amoral, maybe desensitizing, maybe damaging.

The latter — fetching and obtaining — gets low grades for nourishment, criticized by erudite game makers for enticing people to play games not for the fun of play but for the coercion to gather, accrue, horde and invest.

Welcome Lego Harry Potter to repel these dark forces.

The new game based on J.K. Rowling's boy wizard has less violence than its predecessors and less collecting.

Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 is an unlikely candidate to help nudge back some of gaming's most irrepressible trends. That it may do so, in even its own small ways, seems less the result of some noble goal by its design team but a happy convergence of licenses.

This Lego Potter game, a successor to Lego Star Wars, Lego Indiana Jones and Lego Batman games, will prevent its hero from busting innocent bystanders into their constituent Lego bricks simply because Harry Potter wouldn't do such a thing to his Hogwarts chums. "Harry Potter is a good guy," the game's lead designer, Arthur Parsons from TT Games told Kotaku during a recent demonstration of the game in new York City. This game, the developer told me, comparing it to previous Lego adventures, "is less about beating up goons." It's more about exploring Hogwarts and the scenes described in Rowling's first four Potter novels.

We can quibble about whether Harry Potter is more the good guy than previous Lego heroes such as Luke Skywalker or Bruce Wayne. They were men of action who could joyfully knock enemy and allies' Lego torsos from Lego heads with the glee of a five-year-old playing with the famous Danish bricks. Potter as a wide-eyed explorer rather than a bully sounds right. Plus, his opportunity for misbehavior is merely different and less violent, more the prankster than the jock brute: he can't knock a Hogwarts classmate apart; but he can point his wand at them and make them breakdance. should Harry mess with a teacher, he might be turned into a frog. Parsons said that, should we play as a Slytherin, Harry's school nemeses, we might have more playfully violent options.

Mark it here: a video game sequel that may be less violent than its predecessors. That's the road never taken. And a sequel with less to collect? That's unusual too.

You don't have to be Jonathan Blow, a man who criticized the coin-collecting, virtual-material-reward-as-bait philosophy of game design, to recognize that games instill or reinforce an obsession to obtain. Lego games are guilty parties here. Past Lego adventures have had players collecting Lego studs, Lego bricks (gold ones; red ones), and more. You amassed this stuff in the dozens, the hundreds, the tens of thousands, bit by bit, more begetting a need for more.

But there's less to collect in the new game, Parsons said, despite its being a huge adventure. A player is still encouraged to clear the game's levels multiple times to collect studs and bricks. But while the game was made, some trinket quests were removed. A need to obtain points for your Hogwarts school house was dropped. The collecting was streamlined. This came from feedback of focus testers, Parsons said. They didn't understand why they had to collect so much stuff, and for what? The decision in this regard sounds like it was made not out of Jonathan Blow's ethical concerns but about the same essential question Blow's critique of other games boils down to: What's the point of all this fetching?

Lego Potter does have 170-something characters to unlock and play as, and dozens of levels. it seems plenty full even if it has "just" 200 gold bricks to win and nary a house point for which to vie.

Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4, which is being sold next month on all major gaming platforms, isn't intended to be a redemptive antidote to gaming's most notorious tendencies. its gentle pushback against some of those tendencies may be invisible to most, a curiosity that only makes sense in comparison to other games. but it is nonetheless notable that a sequel can avoid the accretion of violence and trinket-collecting of its predecessors.

We could say there's hope for games yet, if we wanted to have that kind of smirk and disdain for the rest of the medium. But if we did, then we probably would be distraught by the deeper meaning of a mission in this next Potter game's Nintendo DS edition: A mission to shoot evil books, in a video game. But, no, we get games better than that. we don't always mind their dark tendencies, but let's also delight in a trend or two that gets bucked thanks to Harry Potter.
